Hunger

Peter Foldès directs and animates the eleven-minute short Hunger. Ostensibly created to satirize the latent greed and gluttony inherent in consumerism, Hunger begins with a thin illustrated character eating continuously until he grows to mammoth proportions. Unable to be satiated, this now-obese and grotesque man delves headfirst into debauchery, hedonistically satisfying every sensory desire that hits him, until a related nightmare shakes him to his core. Partially animated by computer, Hunger posits black-and-white animated illustrations against a colored backdrop, with surrealistic figures that fluidly bend, stretch, change shape and ultimately take on new forms. Sans dialogue, the film is accompanied by a Pierre F. Brault score. ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide
